2016 Hendricks Legacy Pinot Noir

2016 Hendricks Legacy Pinot Noir
2016 Hendricks Legacy Pinot Noir

My great-great grandfather, Abijah Hendricks, was on the first major wagon train to come to the Oregon Territory in 1843, with a group of settlers from McMinnville, Tennessee.   He married Mary Jane Dickerson two years later, and settled east of the current town of Carlton, Oregon.   They homesteaded one square mile, planting wheat, orchards, and living off the land.

It was a dream of mine to make wine from this soil – my roots. Earl and Peggy Lumpkin heard my story, and agreed to sell me fruit from this site.  Their vineyard, Timbale & Thyme is situated on the north side of Hendricks Road, within the 640 acre parcel homesteaded by Abijah and Mary Jane Hendricks.  Planted in 2011 with Pommard, Dijon 667 and heritage clones of Pinot Noir Timbale and Thyme has a south facing slope, lower elevation, a warm, generous site.

For the Hendricks Legacy Pinot Noir, equal portion of the Pommard and Dijon 667 clones give an opulent, luscious wine.

Growing Season: The 2016 growing season was one of the warmest in Oregon on record. That                being said we had adequate moisture and a couple of cool weather patterns throughout          the season that enabled us to gain some hang time. We harvested pristine fruit in early            September, nearly a month before the historical average.
